Assessments for Post-Secondary Students & Adults
Many post-secondary students and folks completing their Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) find that aspects of their learning and/or emotional well-being hinder their ability to reach their goals. You are not alone! Some of the issues addressed at this clinic include problems with procrastination, organization, focus, memory, comprehension, specific academic skills (e.g., word decoding difficulties), anxiousness, test anxiety, depressed mood, or difficulty completing tasks within restricted timeframes.
An assessment is tailored to you based on the nature of your concerns. This may involve an evaluation of your cognitive and academic development to clarify your learning strengths and needs or your mental health. An assessment is a diagnostic process that helps determine if the difficulties you're experiencing are the result of a neurodiversity such as a learning disability (e.g., dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia), ADHD, or a mental health condition such as depression or anxiety. The assessment informs a plan which may include strategies, supports, interventions, or accommodations to help ensure the accessibility of your post-secondary program or workplace.
The end result of the assessment is a feedback session to discuss your results and recommendations and a formal report. Clients often share this report with the accessibility services department at their post-secondary program, or used as part of an accessibility and accommodations request (e.g., CAED, CFE, LSAT, MCAT), and when applying for grants as a student with a disability with Alberta Student Aid.
